High school for students with addictions to open next year.(SOUTH)

A high school for students recovering from alcohol and drug abuse is expected to open next fall in Dakota County.

It will be the first Sobriety High School to serve south-of-the-river communities.

The school, which opened in 1989 and has campuses in Edina and Maplewood, is designed to be a place where students can avoid old friends who could bring them back to their addictions.

"Here the students can build really solid foundations," said Jim Czarniecki, chief executive officer of Sobriety High School. "The outcomes have been fabulous. We retain about 70 percent of our students and about two-thirds of our kids go on to higher ...
