Awards are nice, and blues singer John Hammond is hardly starving. But he's always toiled in the shadows cast by bigger names.

Partly it's because he has rarely plugged in. Hammond has remained the proverbial country blues singer out in the field, wailing with his acoustic guitar and a harmonica.

This man was playing and recording the blues before the electric blues revival of the late '60s, when Chicago-style electric bands, and British and San Francisco rock groups, all rode a buzzing blues high.
