Huge salary spurs call for probe; Head Start official in Texas earns $205,640 yearly.(NATION)

News that a Head Start director in Texas was paid $205,640 a year has prompted House leaders to ask for a federal review of Head Start finances nationwide.

"Is the San Antonio case atypical or are there other cases around the country where Head Start funds are being abused?" Republican Reps. John A. Boehner of Ohio and Michael N. Castle of Delaware said in an Oct. 2 letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson.

The letter asks HHS to review the finances of all Head Start grant recipients and "provide a detailed categorical analysis that shows exactly how federal Head Start dollars are spent at the ...
