I was interested to read your May/June article on "Keeping Our Courts Fair and impartial." It is an extremely important issue in which state Leagues should be deeply involved. I am writing because yon erroneously included Iowa among the states scheduled to elect one or more Supreme Court justices in 2004. Iowa does not elect judges and we haven't since we adopted a constitutional amendment in 1962. The LWVIA was instrumental in making this change. Supreme Court judges stand for retention or rejection every 8 years, but spending on these referendums is virtually non-existent.
