Music Stores Suffer as Pricing Gets More Competitive, Downloading Continues.

Oct. 9--Jamie Pate soon will need to look for a new place to buy the offbeat brands of music she likes.

Wherehouse Music was one of the few spots she could find new and used CDs put out by her favorite alternative bands. But the California music chain's recent decision to shut down its store on Wrightsboro Road means Ms. Pate probably will have to shop online at sites like Amazon.com to satisfy her eclectic taste for tunes.
