There are meals you dress up for, which is nice, but sometimes what you really want is the kind of place where it's OK to amble in, scruffy and sweaty, straight off of a bike ride or a day on the water.
Paseo - with its tongue-in-cheek sign advising, "Hippies Use the Side Door" - is that place.
The food is Caribbean-Cuban, well suited to lazy days and finger-licking, an activity that becomes nearly reflexive among customers at this Fremont takeout stand-cum-cafe. No surprise, then, that everything sampled on two recent visits was delicious.
