Sabic to build second EG plant at Al Jubail.(News)(Saudi Basic Industries Corp. will build ethylene glycol plant)(Brief Article)

LOOKING TO secure its position as the leading producer of ethylene glycol (EG), Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) will construct a new 625,000 metric ton EG plant at its Jubail United Petrochemical Company (United) in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Costs of the new construction have not been revealed.

The plant, which is expected on stream by the end of 2005, will be the second at United and the seventh overall for Sabic. The company is currently constructing a 575,000 ton unit at United that is due on stream in late 2004. It will bring the company's nameplate to 3.5 million tons--roughly 20 percent of global demand.
