SODIUM FORMATE is facing upward pricing pressures based on tightening supplies. A by-product of pentaerythritol, sodium formate production has been constrained by a slowdown in demand for pentaerythritol in the past year.
Several producers have responded to market conditions by nominating price increases for sodium formate. On October 1, Celanese Chemicals increased the price of its sodium formate crystals by 3 cents per pound for the US and Canada; Hercules Inc.'s Aqualon division increased global prices of sodium formate by 3 cents per pound, and Perstorp Polyols Inc. also increased its price for sodium formate by 3 cents per pound.
