It was one of those nights when David Paul was still on toP of Miami's world. A civic dinner in his honor had just ended, and Paul was huddled with Thelma Gibson. The two knew each through their common service on the Dade County Public Health Trust, and in the course of their monthly meetings became passing acquaintances.

With the gracious charm that he turned on and off like a light switch, Paul asked Gibson if she would consider serving on CenTrust's board of directors.
