Two sides to the NHS story.(Editorial)

WHAT IS the public perception of the NHS: a caring environment in which people are kept well or helped back to health? Apparently not, even though this is, overwhelmingly, what happens in the health service every day of the week. According to research published by the Department of Health, the most commonly held view of the NHS is an organisation struggling with operational difficulties. The study, carried out by a team at Loughborough University's business school, looked at the attractiveness, of the NHS as an employer in the eyes of potential recruits to nursing and the allied health professions.
