Oct. 10--Chicago Transit Authority President Frank Kruesi Thursday proposed a $1.75 fare--a 25-cent increase--for a standard, one-way CTA bus or train trip to plug a $30 million hole in the agency's budget.
If approved by the CTA board, the fare hike will be the first since 1991, when the CTA began charging its $1.50 fare, up from $1.25.
There were no service cuts proposed and the fare increases would take effect Jan. 1.
