ALEXANDRIA -- Capt. Martin Greenwell confessed a lifelong weakness for beautiful women.

In his early 20s, he met a woman almost 20 years his senior, a veteran of several marriages. Greenwell was overpowered by her movie-star good looks, and they married.

Louise Greenwell was so striking that she was once ushered to the head table at a State Department gathering because it was assumed from her deportment she must be a Kennedy.

The refined, charming Capt. Greenwell was so admired in the Navy community, a 45-mile long glacier was named for him following his one-year tour of Antarctica.
