NEW YORK -- The kickoff of sportswear market week Monday found retailers willing to unleash dollars for holiday items -- including sweaters and jeans -- but only for styles with extra pizzazz.
In the sweater category, for instance, some buyers planned on spending as much as 40 percent of their holiday dollars by the end of market period, but they were specifically seeking out new looks in novelty fancies.
Buyers were optimistic about jeans -- especially denim shorts -- although they were spending only on hot fashion looks they won't be able to get later.
