Field trials with genetically-modified oilseed rape and sugar beet have shown that they have a worse impact on the environment than conventional crops and should not be marketed commercially, according to a report in the British daily The Guardian. According to the newspaper, UK scientists will be publishing on October 16 the findings of three years of field trials which should alert the British Government to the undesirable consequences of this type of crop-growing on both plant and insect life. While the conclusions of this study will provide valuable ammunition for European environmentalists, they will be a serious setback for advocates of GM-crops in the United Kingdom ...
