Herbert Demel will try to improve relations with General Motors when he becomes CEO of Fiat Auto on Nov. 15.
Fiat Auto and GM are achieving significant savings by parts sharing, but Fiat's right to force GM to buy all of Fiat Auto is unresolved.
Demel, a 50-year-old mechanical engineer who has worked at Robert Bosch GmbH, Audi, Volkswagen do Brasil and during the past year at Magna Steyr in Austria, is the sixth CEO since Fiat Auto was spun off as a separate company in 1979.
