Oct. 14--Portland Mayor Vera Katz and about 250 other political and business luminaries gathered Monday morning to officially launch the massive South Waterfront redevelopment effort, which one official called "the largest economic development project in the history of Portland."
"Welcome to Portland's next great neighborhood," Katz told the high-powered crowd, which included Gov. Ted Kulongoski, most of the state's congressional delegation and a coterie of local executives.
