Sterling Software's SSG launches three initiatives to guide its 20-year-old products into a new age

Sterling Software, Inc. is a practical company, led portfolio-management style by a number-crunching president who assigns profit and loss responsibility to a number of small units which together garnered about $200 million in sales last year.

Sterling's roots go deep in the software industry. Chairman of the board and founder Sam Wylie, who hired current president and CEO Sterling Williams as his first software salesman at the former University Computing Co. of Dallas (later called Uccel), is one of the founders of the software industry itself.
