As breast cancer awareness month begins in the UK, the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) has announced that it is to investigate the association between hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the disease in light of the fresh concerns about the link.
As reported in last month's Cancer Nursing Practice, results from the Million Women Study show that HRT can double the chances of developing breast cancer. If EMEA deems HRT to be a public health risk, the agency could go so far as removing it from the market.
