In the acknowledgements, co-authors Cheryl Gibbs and Torn Warhover relate that public journalism guru Jay Rosen suggested that they contact The Guilford Press about their ideas for the book, "Getting the Whole Story: Reporting and Writing the News." While writing the book, they also consulted such public journalism heavyweights as Davis "Buzz" Merritt, Cole Campbell, Jim Carey, Ed Lambeth, and Phil Meyer.
