Eczema, the skin condition that brings untold torment to thousands of children and adults, is on the increase.
Back in the 1950s, only 3pc of five to 16-year- olds were diagnosed with eczema, compared with 20pc in 2000. But, in spite of its prevalence, it is still regularly misunderstood.
It's not unusual for a child with the condition to be ostracised for his or her appearance or shunned because classmates mistakenly believe it is catching.

...ONE in 10 people suffers from eczema, many of them unnecessarily, campaigners said yesterday. The National Eczema Society said the skin condition can be controlled and even eradicated by changes in the home such as temperature control.
