Q. I have a half-barrel planter that has a fast growing fungus creeping across the soil and up the plants. The fungus looks foamy and in three days turns from yellow-orange to brown to gray. The lavender and basil plants were beginning to wilt so I picked the fungus off the plants and they perked up.
I've grown plants successfully in this barrel for several years. I have a special lavender plant in the container and I don't want to lose it. What could cause this fungus and how can I save the lavender plant?
