Oct. 13--When Shirley Clark bought Gerard's French Restaurant in Riverside with a credit card, she did so with new adventures in mind.
A year of traveling the California coast, the snows of Wyoming and Montana and the deserts of the Southwest with Ed Worthen, her companion of five years, had proven pleasant but ultimately boring. The retired elementary school teacher had resorted to alphabetizing her socks.
"After about a year we looked at each other and said, 'Well, we've done that,' " Clark said.
