In August 2002, the AORN Board of Directors approved a recommendation from the Legislative Committee to expand the Association's legislative priorities to include policy statements regarding the national nursing shortage, the Nurse Reinvestment Act, and patient safety. Since then, the committee has reviewed both state and federal legislation, although it has not formally endorsed a specific proposal.
In August 2003, the committee sent a recommendation to the Board to add to the legislative priorities a preamble that acknowledges the entire legislative agenda as an exercise in patient safety and advocacy of quality surgical patient care. This perspective has been ...
