What makes a great book? That is a question that will have been on the minds of many a reader this week as the winner of the Man Booker prize was announced in all its literary glamour.
It was a particularly exciting Booker this year as Astonishing Splashes of Colour was on the short list, which meant Birmingham was up there with Atwood and Ali in the form of its author from Quinton, Clare Morrall, and publisher, Tindal Street Press, based in Digbeth.
