Oct. 19--Dyadic International put the "stone-washed" in stone-washed jeans.

The gene research company in Jupiter has attracted the attention of venture capitalists, but it is hardly a start-up firm.

Dyadic has been around since 1979, when it was founded by Mark Emalfarb, a former wrestler on the University of Iowa national champion teams of the late 1970s.

Emarlfarb got into the gene business through the jean business.
