We are going to be hearing a lot about Hydro-Quebec's James Bay two power project in the months and years to come, and very little of what we hear will be good news.
Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa's scheme to harness the hydroelectric power of the major rivers that drain into James Bay and southern Hudson Bay is a continuation of the phase one project which has already flooded over 10,000 square kilometers of pristine wilderness. If phase two goes ahead, it will flood an additional 5,000 square kilometers.
