When it comes to important documents in American history, the big ones kind of hover over the national consciousness.
Sure, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are monumental, but if it hadn't been for the Louisiana Purchase, people might need a passport to cross the Hennepin Avenue Bridge.
In any case, Americans are getting the chance to pick out what they consider important. A civics initiative called "The People's Vote: 100 Documents That Shaped America" invites people to select which document was the most influential in the country's history.
