Article: Raman Puri takes over as new CIDS.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Going ahead with the new policy of rotation of integrated command, Vice Admiral Raman Puri today took over as India's Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff (CIDS).

Puri, who assumed office after inspecting a Tri-service guard of honour, is the first Naval Officer to head the Integrated Defence Staff.

He told newsmen that it was upto the Government to decide on the appointment of the New Chief of Defence Staff.

His remarks assume significance as the Defence Minister George Fernandes had told PTI recently that Government would appoint the CDS in a few months time after political consultations.
