Oct. 21--Despite urbanization, agriculture is holding its own in Manatee County, with an estimated $450 million in economic impact in 2002.
As an agricultural producer, Manatee County ranked eighth of 67 counties in the state in 2001 and holds roughly the same ranking now, said Phyllis Gilreath, a University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service agent.
"I doubt we have dropped," Gilreath said. "We are still in the top 10. Compared to a lot of agricultural counties, we are really doing well.
