Community revitalization is a tough, but rewarding business. It is a big business if one counts all the government spending, foundation investment, and nonprofit funding that goes into it. And that's not counting the time contributed by thousands of volunteers.

I have not seen any statistics, but I suspect that most neighborhoods targeted for revitalization are not fully revitalized. Instead, there is a slowdown in decline of the neighborhood. That's not necessarily a bad thing; many groups involved in community revitalization could probably do better if they answered the six fundamental questions below.
