STATE FINDS SLEDDING COVERAGE; UMBRELLA INSURANCE FOR STATE SNOWMOBILE GROUP WILL INCLUDE INDIVIDUAL CLUBS.(Local)

After a snowmobile insurance crisis shut thousands of miles of trails during one of last winter's snowiest weekends, the state's snowmobile community is getting new, better coverage, Gov. George Pataki plans to announce today.

The state helped broker a deal under which snowmobile clubs, through their state association, will be insured for a year by Lexington Insurance Co., of Boston, state parks officials said Monday.

"The governor is well-aware this is a serious issue for the tourism industry, many areas of our state and many of our residents," said Bernadette Castro, state parks commissioner.
