Oct. 20--MOUNT STERLING, Ky.--A sign advertises piles of diabetic socks (loose fit top, will not bind) for $2, not far from stacks of Brooks Brothers sweaters for $10 each and chewing tobacco samples free for the taking.
Mount Sterling's downtown streets grow thicker by the hour with more than 2,000 vendors, tons of merchandise and food, and an estimated 100,000 browsers. Many in the crowd openly carry a just- purchased shotgun or maybe a .45 caliber musket for their collection.
In the middle of it all, three women sit on a bench, eating corndogs ...
