Oct. 21--A group of prominent South Florida business people has filed for state permission to open a community bank, based in Miami, to be called Great Florida Bank.
Once approval is granted by the state Department of Financial Services, the bank would open in the first quarter of next year, said Mehdi Ghomeshi, the bank's primary investor, who would serve as president and chief executive.
The investors, who would serve as the bank's board of directors, have raised more than the state minimum of $8 million in capital, said Ghomeshi, the former executive vice chairman ...
