The Bayne Co. has been providing solutions to the problem of wood pole top failures for over 20 years. The top of the wood pole is as critical to successful field performance as proper ground line preservation. Prior to the 1982 introduction of the patented Star-Lock device, little attention had been paid to the top of the wood utility pole. In recent years, utility studies of pole failures based on field inspections have shown that 15% of these failures are due to pole top problems: of these, 50% are due to splits and 50% are due to decay.
