Hotel operators in Fairfield County are singing that old refrain: "It's been down so long it looks like up to me."
But up-from-the-bottom hotels may not come until 2005 or 2006, predicts Steve Paganelli, executive director of the Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitor Bureau in Norwalk.
"The business continues to be sporadic," he adds. "The Fairfield County hotel market is about 60 percent dependent on the business traveler, and that's a sector of the travel industry that is undergoing a very slow recovery."
