As I do periodically, I return today to astronomy's most engaging and important mystery. No, not whether the Man in the Moon should be a subject on the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" TV show but, rather, what dark matter is and why it's so darned hard to see.
Not only is it hard to see, it's hard to think about. At least twice in the preparation of this column, in fact, my head nearly exploded and I had to lie down for as much as four hours at a time. But I feel better now. Thanks for asking.
Even though scientists aren't sure what dark matter is (dark energy, either), they've been hunting for it for a long time because ...
