On the most significant day of his professional life, Dan O'Brien wore a dark gray suit and spoke clearly and calmly in measured tones.
In that regard, Monday was just like any other day for the Reds' new general manager. Since taking his first full-time job in professional baseball straight out of graduate school at Ohio University in 1977, O'Brien has made a name for himself around the game by doing his job quietly and efficiently.
The son and namesake of a lifetime executive at various levels of baseball, O'Brien said he learned early on from his father that there was no such thing as a menial task. ...
