There is no evidence to show a connection between collagen injections and the development of polymyositis or dermatomyositis, two rare connective tissue diseases, according to FDA. Nevertheless, to address concerns about such a possible association, the agency recently approved a labeling change for two collagen products, warning that some cases of connective tissue disorders have been reported in patients given collagen injections.
