Banknorth Group, Inc., today announced that its subsidiary, Banknorth, N.A., more than tripled the number of loans backed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for the year ending September 30, 2003. The company also improved its SBA loan volume and ranking in all of the states in which it does business, placing first in Maine, second in New Hampshire and Vermont, and third in Massachusetts. In those states, Banknorth, N.A., operates as Peoples Heritage Bank, Bank of New Hampshire, Banknorth Vermont and Banknorth Massachusetts, respectively.
