SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- A mandate requiring fixed-line phone companies to let customers keep their phone numbers when changing service providers will be expanded to 11 cities starting Friday, according to the Ministry of Information and Communication. The cities include Suwon, Daejeon, Kwangju, Ulsan, Jeonju, Cheonan and Masan. Introduction of number portability, when it comes into effect nationwide, is expected to reshape the country's local fixed-line phone market, which has been dominated by KT Corp.For the two local telephone operators, KT and Hanaro Telecom Inc., the move could be the start of a shift in market share.
