Some Currents readers may recall last month's issue's notice of a ScotsFest of sorts in Prince Edward Island centred around the colony Lord Selkirk founded 200 years ago. Well, the Scottishness continues. Can you ever get enough Scots? Can you? You can't. This country was founded on the mores of Scots Presbyterianism, We're all hardworking, thrifty, and earnest--yes. even those Canadians who originated far, far from the land of oats and money. As Sir Wilfrid Laurier said in 1893, "Were I not French, I would choose to be a Scot." Our guess is he was more of one than he knew.
