QUESTION In the film Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, why did the brother in the red shirt never join in any of the dance sequences?
FIVE of the actors chosen to play the brothers were some of America's best dancers at the time. They went on to lead dance companies in ballet (Jacques D'Amboise), modern dance (Matt Mattox), had longer careers as dancers/choreographers (Marc Platt, Tommy Rall) or as dance/actors (Russ Tamblyn was Oscar-nominated for acting in Peyton Place in 1957).
Howard Keel was an actor/singer under contract to MGM, not known for dancing and didn't dance much in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954), Kismet (1955), Calamity Jane (1953) ...
