Smart bombs might be what most of us remember about Desert Storm; but smart materials handling is what delivered those bombs to the Gulf.
In the beginning, Desert Shield was primarily a materials handling operation. The United States needed to move enough troops, equipment, supplies, and vehicles to deter Saddam Hussein from further advances.
In the first three weeks after the invasion of Kuwait, as much military material arrived in the Persian Gulf as arrived in the first 3 months of the Korean conflict.
