Silent Witness: Two Below Zero (BBC1); Congo (BBC2) ONE of the older traditions in detective fiction has, I'm pleased to see, been upheld in the latest Silent Witness over the past two nights.
I'm referring to the superiority of the amateur over the professional when it comes to the investigation of crime, and the presentation of police officers as utter dolts.
This is, perhaps, a necessary antidote to the elevated status TV affords its Morses and Frosts, and harks back to a previous age of Gentlemen versus Players and when squires kept public employees in their proper stations.
