AS a boy, Mike Coles found RE lessons a crushing bore.
When he went on to become a teacher in the subject, he was determined his own pupils would not suffer the way he had.
Inspired by his adopted home in the East End of London, he translated passages of the Bible into Cockney rhyming slang.
Now his efforts have been blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, who has written the foreword to a book of his work. 'The kids love working the rhyming slang out and it makes them really enjoy the lessons,' Mr Coles, 38, said yesterday.
