Two new volumes focus on the voices of women.
In "When I Was a Girl" (Pocket Books, $14), editor Alison Pollet collects the favorite memories of more than 30 extraordinary women about such things as first friendships, school, favorite outfits, dating, and dreams. Among the entries are those from Melanie Griffith, Anna Quindlen, Sally Ride, Gladys Knight, Gillian Anderson and Ellen DeGeneres. The book is based on the WE: Women's Entertainment television series. Linda Ellerbee, the producer of the series, provides an introduction.
