Gregory S. Rigby, the Conservative candidate for Auburn mayor, is calling for the city to re-evaluate the way it does business at the city landfill.
Rigby disagrees with charging $35 per ton to Casella Waste Management, which is contracted to deposit 40,000 tons annually, compared to $72 a ton for residents. He also proposes the city consider closing the landfill temporarily, setting it up as transfer station and sending city waste to Seneca Meadows, a privately owned landfill in Seneca Falls.
"We're shortening the life of our own landfill at a pretty dramatic rate," he said.
