Discussions about consolidating or merging school districts were common in the 1940s, '50s and '60s and today they are becoming common again.
The tiny school district of Albany, 30 miles southwest of Madison, is the most recent to face that subject after voters there approved a spending package of $240,000 on Oct. 21 to keep the 460-student district afloat for another year.
As a follow-up to that vote, the district administration and the school board plan to meet with community members to discuss options for the future of the school system in that Green County community.
