LANARK - The gods must be St. Edward fans.
And they must have made the 100-mile trip west with the rest of the Green Wave caravan, through the towns of Davis Junction, Monroe Center and Forreston, over the Leaf and Rock Rivers and past the endless stretch of barren corn fields for the school's first playoff game in 20 years.
Because the moment time ran out on St. Edward's 41-19 season- ending loss to Eastland-Pearl City Saturday afternoon, the heavens darkened and the gods began to weep a steady rain. Still nothing could wash away the feeling of what might have been.
