Mayr-Melnhof Packaging Austria GmbH took home the Carton of the Year award from Pro Carton and the European Carton Manufacturers Associations (ECMA) during the Pro Carton Congress in September in Crete, Greece.
The carton effectively combined a pyramid shape and a variety of high-quality printing and finishing techniques, "adding up to the composition of a mountain," the jury says. A multitude of embossed textures and one-color graphics added to the UV varnish and matte embossing to further illustrate the contrast between the smoothness of the snow and the roughness of the rocky Alps, which the carton was trying to represent.
